“I Don’t Have Time to Start the SCD Diet”
Why is it that some people are able to take control of their health… but so many other people aren’t?
When people download the free guide to start the diet, we always follow up to find out how things are going and ask about what challenges they are having starting the diet.
Can you guess how people respond?
“I’ve just been too busy to start” or
“I don’t know when I will have time to make this food” or
“I have to do some more research before I can do this.”
I found the following answers to these questions very insightful.
“I Just Don’t Have Time to Start”
How many of us have that exact same thought before starting the SCD Diet? It was my number one excuse, followed by “I don’t even know how to cook.” Even though I was spending 3-4 hours a day in pain on the toilet, I still didn’t have time to make some food that would give me that freedom back. If you are chained to a toilet like I was, you can’t just sit there and wish for something to change while chomping on some pasta. You have to pull your pants up, walk in the kitchen and change what is going in your mouth.
“I Don’t Know When I Will Have Time to Make This Food”
I had this fear when I first started as if I was going to be up at 3:00 AM in a comatose state having to make food or something. That never happened. In fact, I would say I spend less time cooking now than I did before, because I cook smarter. Someone who really wants to take control of their health (and has the ability to head to the kitchen and do so) would ask themselves: How can I make time to cook this food? What do I need to learn how to cook? How do I start? How can I do it better/faster/tastier?
“I Have to Do Some More Research Before I Can Do This”
Honestly, I did a lot of research when I was thinking about starting, too. I think it was one of the ways I was “gearing up” for the journey. It also helped me to get motivated to finally take the plunge. The key here is that I was actually DOING something. Someone spending time researching the diet and reading about it is much more likely to succeed than someone who just claims they have no time and throws up their arms. There are things you have to make decisions about, like “Do I really need to watch 12 hours of TV a week and stay sick?” The fact that you are reading this blog post right now means you are part of the DOING group, so that’s good.
It Really Comes Down to Deciding to Take Control of Your Health
There are any number of reasons to not start the SCD Diet, and they are all like saying the same thing. You’re saying you haven’t made the decision to take control of your health yet. It took me about two weeks to realize that before I could finally decide that no one was going to cure my disease for me, so either I was stuck suffering from my genetics, or I was going to take control of them and remove the thing that was aggravating the problem.
It’s never about the time – think about it. It’s really about control. Does the disease control you, or do you control the disease? The answer to that question is what will ultimately tell you if you are going to start the SCD Diet or not – because changing the food that goes into your mouth every day is the only way to get that control back.
It doesn’t matter whether you decide to use our free guide to start the diet, or just start eating “SCD Legal.” In either case, awesome, you are taking control, no longer making excuses, and asking the right questions. If you feel like you need more answers to some of those questions to help you get started on your journey, see if we haven’t laid it out in our eBook. Or email us at jordanandsteve@scdlifestyle.com.
Whatever you do, don’t just turn off the computer and think, “man that was a good article” and go back to eating a pizza…
Tell me about the excuses that popped in your head when you first learned about the diet? How did you overcome them?
